Birthday girl

"What the . . . ." you start to say, then stop. You examine your attire in amazement. Pink shoes and lacy socks now adorn your feet. Your skin feels baby soft. As you move your bare legs, you feel something tickle your thighs and realize that you are wearing a petticoat underneath your dress. There is also something in your long hair that you are not used to wearing . . . what is it? You soon discover that it is a pink ribbon.

Ronald picks you up and smiles at you in his clownish, ridiculous way. "Happy birthday, Molly!" He carries you toward a long table with benches on each side. At the center of the table is a birthday cake with the word "Barbie" written in pink gel on white icing. A picture of Barbie herself, dressed in a red tutu, is also on the cake.

Ronald plops you down on the bench right in front of the cake. As you are laid onto your seat, your skirt and petticoat spread over the bench. You can feel the cool temperature of the bench against your legs and bottom.

One of the restaurant employees, a young woman about 18 years of age, produces a set of nine pink and white birthday candles. She quickly sticks them into the cake and lights each one. As she lights the last one, Ronald and the others begin to sing perhaps the worst rendition of "Happy Birthday" that you have ever heard.

When the song ends, Ronald and the others applaud. Ronald asks you, "Well, little girl? Would you like to open presents first or eat cake first?"
