If you say no to Wendy, you've lost her. If you say yes, there's a chance--albeit a slim one--that she will accept you as you are.
"All right," you tell Wendy over the phone. "Come to my place Friday night. I'll cook one of my special dinners."
As you hang up the phone, it occurs to you that this may very well be the last time you ever see Wendy. You resolve to make it a perfect evening, regardless of the cost.
First, you contact a tailor and request a new suit, custom-fitted to your hippo body. Second, you give the apartment a thorough cleaning. Finally, you order a bouquet of roses and the fixings for a gourmet meal.
Friday night arrives. You set a picture-perfect table, complete with silver candlesticks. After slipping into your new suit, you take a final look in the mirror. You cut quite a dashing figure--for a hippopotamus.
The doorbell rings. Taking a deep breath, you open the door. There stands Wendy, just as beautiful as you remembered her.
