A Place in the Sun

With your short legs, huge belly, and sluggish metabolism, you find climbing down the stairs to be an arduous task. At the bottom of the stairs, you find yourself standing in a patch of sunlight. The warm sun on your body feels so good that you stop, spread your arms wide, and bask in the golden rays for several minutes. You feel wonderfully alive.

"What are you?" asks a high-pitched voice. Coming to, you notice a little girl staring up at you.

"I'm an alligator," you snap. "Can't you tell?"

The girl takes a half-step away from you.

"I didn't mean to scare you," you add softly. "Haven't you ever seen a morph before?"

"I saw a wolf-man at the park today," the girl confesses shyly, "but my mommy told me not to talk to animal people."

"The park?" you gasp. "The little park down the street?"

"Uh-huh," the girl nods.

As fast as your stumpy lugs can carry you, you race down the street. "Thank you!" you call to the girl. "Thank you very much!"
