A Career in Sales

"Before we proceed any further," opines the old man, "I think that we should drink to your bright future at Spells 'R' Us. Would you get the stemware, Ryan?"

Brian starts to correct the old man but thinks better of it and disappears into the back of the store. He returns momentarily with chilled glasses, each containing some sort of opalescent cordial.

"Good boy!" declares the old man. Without another word, he raises his glass to his lips and empties it. You and Brian exchange glances and then follow suit.

"Now, then," mutters the old man, "do you know how to operate a cash register?"

You realise that he is talking to you, and you nod enthusiastically.

"Wonderful!" cries the old man. "All that remains, then, is to acquaint you better with the merchandise. Take your time and look around, and let Ryan or me know if you need anything."

You thank the old man and walk over to the magazine rack. Your claws make a funny rat-a-tat sound against the tile floor, but no one else seems to notice. You look for Billboard and Magnet, but the only titles in stock are completely unfamiliar to you: Father to Be, Modern Marsupial, and Reptile Roundup, to name several. You tidy up a bit and them move on to the hardware section of the store. Already, it is beginning to feel like a second home.
