Watching the brown robed man eat the slice of melon brings back memories of yesterday when you bought the melon. Yesterday wasn't such a bad day after all. The car wreck, the smashed toe, the lost wallet, the root canal, the deaf ear, the scratched eye, and of course the little carnival monkey.
"Have you been here before?" you ask.
The brown robed man, now scouring your shelves and food containers for anything edible at all says, "It's the shifting that makes me hungry. I was a small mammal, then a little boy, and now a man. Do you know what that does to a system? I need to build some mass, fast!"
You decide to ignore that and say again, "So, have you been here before?"
"What," he says, "In your house?"
Amazing how he could bite, chew, and swallow while speaking, you thought. "Well, no, what I meant is, have you been HERE before. You know, planet Earth."
He said, "Is that what it's called? Listen," as he put down the last of your peach reserves, "We don't really have time for chit chat, if you know what I mean. We could have a real problem on our hands if a certain you-know-who finds out where I am." As this makes no sense to you, you say nothing and nod. He continues on for a bit speaking of travelling through when and winding up where and running from the controllers.
You say, "Am I to gather that you are going to tangle me up in all of this?"
He looks at you and winks. "You were tangled up in all of this way before you even knew it! Now about about the magic in this world. Got any?"
