Not the First Time

You take a deep breath and try to feel confident.

"Well, we're not getting anywhere out here," you say. "Let's see if anyone's home."

Soon, you stand on Fred's head in front of the door, reaching up to swat at the big iron knocker. In your imagination, the crck crck of metal against metal sounds ominous, like thunder. Quickly, you climb down to stand beside Fred before the door.

"I hear someone inside," he says nervously. You cock your ear, and soon the quiet creak of old floors and tapping of footsteps reaches you as well. "I hope it's friendly...." he says, as the door opens.

Your jaws drop. Standing before you is a strange raccoon-like animal, with hands like a monkey. You suddenly recognize it as a lemur.

"Oh, curses," it says. "It happened again."
