Well, it *would* be the top story, wouldn't it?

"Hey!" you shout. "Why should I help you if you've been doing all this stuff to me? And I saw you guys rob that house, too!"

"No! Listen, it was Raffles!" says Prendick. "He's the one who's been doing all this transformation!"

"Uh-huh," you say. "I should believe you, why, exactly?"

She opens her mouth to retort, then visibly restrains herself. "I see why you don't trust us," she says, determinedly. "There is a remote on the endtable next to you. If you push the TV/Video button, this monitor will show you the news reports. If those don't convince you, nothing will."

Turning, you see the remote in question, and after a few moments set the video to the local news channel.

"...of you just tuning in, the top story this week is certainly the extraordinary series of Transformation Robberies that are plaguing our beautiful town. Rosie?"

"Thank you, Ted. Yes, these crimes have had everyone stumped, policemen and scientists. Here's the footage from the press conference with the police chief last night."

The video cuts to an auditorium. Behind the podium, incongruously, appears to be a large tortoise in a vest.

"I repeat," says the tortoise, "this criminal, 'Raffles', is to be considered armed and dangerous. If you see him, leave immediately and call the police. He has shown no reluctance to use his devices on anyone who obstructs his actions."

The video returns to the newsroom. "Now," Rosie says, "the real question many of us are asking here is, what can we do about this? Is there any way to help the victims of this brute?"

"Well, Rosie," says Ted, "so far, this problem has everyone stumped. The only advance we've had against this is that partial cure that an anonymous source publicized two days ago. Other than that, all the transformations seem to be permanent. Here's Dr. J. S. Hirsch, with more details."

"We're the ones who made the partial cure, you know," says Prendick, behind you. You whirl around to see her leaning against the doorway. She continues: "But a partial cure isn't much, you can see. And there's only one known case of anyone Raffles has changed going all the way back."

She turns her head. "Will you help us? It's the only way to beat him."
