Sit and Talk with Brian

You avoid the sardine question by asking the old man for a minute to talk shop with Brian. This makes the old man happy. "I need to go in the back for a minute, but you and Ryan--or Brian, or whatever his name is--are more than welcome to chat. I'll see you soon." He turns and vanishes into the storeroom.

You look back to Brian, who is sharpening his claws against the counter. "Would you mind telling me some more about your job?" you ask, and he invites you to join him at a table off to the side of the store. You sit at opposite ends of the table, facing one another. "How did you come to work here?" you begin.

Brian laughs. "It seems as if I've always been here," he replies. "The wizard couldn't be nicer; he's like a master to me." He stops to smooth down his fur, then continues: "I started out as a delivery boy, and I eventually came to work here full-time. I was here a lot anyway, so it just made sense."

You decide to ask the inevitable: "Were you always . . . you know, a cat?"
