The offer

Another month passes, and at the weigh in Albert looks at the numbers in avid disbelief, seeing an additional 21 pound gain. At his insistence you see a doctor, who takes some blood to test your thyroid. His general inspection is that despite the weight, your in excellent health, which is a bit of relief to you and Albert, and that he will get back to you with the results. In the mean time you continue the routine.

You go into work the next day, the Lion looks up, an annoyed expression on his face. Despite your work, you still haven't slimmed down any. In fact with what you've gained, the uniform doesn't cover your stomach, and you struggle, half stuck in the door frame each morning before managing to pull through. Today you go behind the counter to take the first order. As you ring it up, you feel the pressure of the register door pop into your stomach and bounce back in, preventing you from getting change or even putting the money in. "Sorry, one second," you say, as you try to open in again. You manage to put in the button, but leaning it, you accidentally cause the register to topple off the counter, pushed by your stomach. You try to catch it by leaning forward instinctively, only to hear a crack, as the counter top takes your weight and fails to hold, caving inas you topple forward.

The Lion comes out and looks at the mess. "Ok... that's it, I can't take this anymore." he says. "Look kid, this isn't working out, your getting fur in the pizza because you can't cover up, your breaking things, and you can't even do your job without that," he pokes your stomach, "Getting in the way. Sorry, but I gotta let you go at this point."

You turn in your uniform, feeling upset, you go to the only place you feel comfortable, Beth's shop. She looks up as you walk in, looking dejected. She walks up to great you, then sees your mood, "What's wrong," she says. "I got fired," you say, taking a seat at your usual spot, and laying your head on the table. "I'm so sorry," Beth says consolingly. She brings out your donut, which you take and eat, feeling a bit better.

"I just got to big for the job," you tell Beth, "Couldn't fit in the uniform, and... I broke the counter." You fill her in on all the details, and she does her best to tell you it's not your fault or the end of the world. "There will be other jobs," she assures you, bringing you a regular sized donut, which you take without question, feeling you deserve something after this bad news. "Yeah, but none that will take a... tub of lard." you say, upset and knowing that just about any job wouldn't hire you at this size.

"Now wait, there are plenty of people who would hire you. your smart and funny and work hard..." she says.

"Name one place that would hire me." you retort, knowing she wouldn't be able to name one. But to your surprise, she immediately retorts, "I would!" but then she catches herself, realizing what she had said, "I mean...," she blushes, lowering her voice in an embarrassed tone, "I... would... if you wanted..." she says, fidgeting again in her nervous way. You are taken aback. You knew she liked you, but you didn't think she would want to hire you. Given your predicament, it may be the only job you can find, but is that a great idea when your boss has a crush on you?
