The screams multiply, and you realize that it is your responsibility to get help. You know that a policeman always is on duty at the intersection three blocks away. Even if he cannot stop the contagion himself, he at least can alert headquarters and issue a public announcement. Nearly flying, you race down Elm Street. After what seems like an eternity, you see the policeman. To your dismay, however, he is hunched over on all fours and eating a bird. When he sees you, he growls and turns around before finishing his snack. Obviously, he is in no mood to help you, or anyone else.
