Up: Game 2  Up: Game 2 Outline

A dealer in magic and spells.

Koko takes you to the entryway of a small building, then pauses. "The palace mystics are out," he explains, "so we had to hire this tradesman on short notice. Pardon his odd appearance. We can't quite convince him to wear a kimono like the rest of us. Go on in. I think I'll stay outside." You detect a note of fear in Koko's voice, but shrug it off and open the door, noting the plaque which reads, in English:

"John Wellington Wells and Co., Family Sorcerers. Special today: Penny curses."

A chime rings as you enter the room, which is quite unlike the others of the area. It appears to be a Victorian Era shop, complete with antique clock and typewriter. A tall, thin man in a top hat and drab coat and suit is tapping away at said machine with his gloved hands. He stands up, and bows, removing his hat. "John Wellington Wells, Practicing Sorcerer, at your service. Are you here about the transformation?"

You reply in the affirmative, noting that this is a transformation-themed story. "True, true," replies Wells. "Koko has paid in advance for the job. Let's begin." Wells lowers the gaslights, pulls out a teapot and begins chanting strange incantations. When he is done, he turns the lights back up and looks you over. You glance in a nearby mirror to see the results, and indeed, you are a Tremendous Swell.

You have become shorter and stouter, are wearing a more colorful kimono, and suddenly have the urge to start making orders. "You are now a high-ranking, rich, haughty government functionary, a Tremendous Swell," says Wells, with no small degree of pride. "Now you must be trained. I'll call in the current local Tremendous Swell and ask him to teach you some bearing." Wells leaves the room, and returns shortly with a stout man. "I'm Pooh-Bah," says the Swell, reaching out to shake your hand.
