You howl into the telephone.
"Hello? Hello! Are you all right?" asks Irene.
Your mouth curves upward into a smile, and you howl again.
"Is this a trick? You don't sound good. I'm coming over there to check on you. I knew something was wrong when you didn't show up at the café."
Of course! You forgot about your date. It seemed too informal to be a real date, but still, you had been looking forward to it all week. How could it have slipped your mind? You bay mournfully to express your sorrow to Irene. But the line is dead. Hoping that she really is coming over, you change out of your work clothes and into something more comfortable. You also tidy up a bit. After all, you have only one chance to make a first impression!
