Three's a Crowd

"Do you know what time it is?" he asks. "I nearly died, thanks to your laziness!"

You and Fred are struck by the boy's odd manner. He saunters into the room and practically melts onto an armchair, until he realises that the door still is ajar. "Close the door, people! What are you trying to do?" he shrieks. Before you can react, he charges into the door himself, knocking it back in its frame with remarkable force, especially from one so pale and skinny.

Fred is the first to speak. "Have we met?" he asks, his tone so matter-of-fact that he seems to be joking. The youth is not amused.

"I don't have time for your wisecracks," announces the boy. He exits the room and goes to the end of the hallway. "Get me up at eight, if I'm not already," he shouts. No sooner does he finish than you hear a slamming action. Then all is quiet.

"What was that about?" asks Fred, and you only shrug in response. Your eyes, widen, though, at the sight of Fred's fur, which appears to be thinning. It is thinning! You watch as his muzzle retracts and his beard vanishes into his face. It all happens naturally; so naturally, in fact, that you do not realise that the same thing is happening to you. Finally, you and Fred both jump up and point at one another. Not only have you both returned to human form, but your clothing magically has mended everywhere that it tore when you changed. Suddenly, it hits you: morning has broken.
