Too late to come to your senses

A few seconds after the sands and waves have closed in over your head you suddenly come to your senses. What the hell are you doing?!? You don't really want to kill yourself!

But when you try to desperately pull your head out of the sands, you find you can't! Frantically you struggle, but it's all in vain. In just a few seconds you'll suffocate and drown, and you haven't a hope of digging your head out before it happens.
