Delayed Devolution?

A bit later on you realise something. "Matilda, I've been this way for quite a while. It must have been longer than 15 minutes."

"You've right!" replies the kangaroo "we'd better check the time. I know where there's a clock.".

When you see the time you are shocked to discover that more than 3 hours have passed! "But Maroo said I'd be much more apelike by now!" you exclaim "Why am I still bigfoot?"

"We'd better ask her." says Matilda
