And what ever it is it appears to be running at you.

As you wipe the dirt from your face, you turn to look at the sky and catch the closing of a swirling vortex of colors above your head; you assume it's the portal from which you fell. You wish that it wasn't so high off the ground, though; that was an awfully big fall you took. As you get up, rubbing your bruised back, you happen to notice that the people on the street are running back into their houses. Okay, what is going on here?

Then you take a look around and happen to notice the sunset. What funny people... maybe they don't like to be out after dark or something... As you watch the last rays of the sun disappear from the skyline, you turn back to the town... to find it seemingly deserted. A cold chill creeps up your back, raising the hairs on your neck. Suddenly, a howl shatters the silence of the night... first one, then another, then another, until it seems as if an army of these creatures waits out there. Then you hear a rumbling off in the distance... and just as you turn to start running down the street, you see a pair of red eyes glowing atop a nearby storefront.

You can make out only a partial silhouette behind the eyes before the figure leaps through the air to smash down on your back, your skull rebounding from the ground at the impact. Then you feel the creature's sharp teeth pierce the back of your shoulder, setting off a rush of pure adrenaline and agonizing pain that courses through you body. The figure jumps off your back and runs off into the darkness.

As you lie there on the ground, you find yourself starting to go into convulsions; the last thing you see before you black out is a crowd's worth of feet running past you. But the strange thing is that they are covered in fur.
