"Hey! Hey, Arra!" The voice is unfamiliar; you've never heard it before either here or in your own time. The voice is light, and sounds urgent. Groaning slightly, you sit up, your vision clearing.
You're still in the same place, but it now seems bright, as though the light source is all around rather than just from the sun. Standing in front of you is a large fox, but it is no ordinary fox: small flames dance around its ankles and on the tip of its tail, and it appears to be much larger than a normal fox. Its eyes show a fierce intelligence, and somehow, you know it was this fox that was calling to you, it was the fox's voice you heard.
"Ah, Arra, you're up. Good," The fox says. Somehow, you're not shocked by the fox's appearance, or by its ability to speak. But it addressed you as 'Arra'. Of course you're still female, but if you've been sent back in time, you shouldn't have 'made up' that name yet. As if sensing your thoughts, the fox speaks. "I sensed your presence shortly after you appeared here, and I have been watching since then. It was I who returned you to this moment after you met with the mage, that I might speak with you here." You just stare blankly as the fox continues. "I come before you to offer you the Power of Fire!"
You jump back reflexively as the flames on the fox's ankles and tail flare up, burning upward and merging into a single orb of flame, positioned over the fox's head. As the fire reaches out towards you, the fox continues to speak. "Take the Power of Fire, Arra, and use it to defeat the hydra."
As the fire circles around you (strangely feeling comfortably warm), you look at the fox. "Why are you doing this?" you ask. "And who or what are you?"
The fox tilts its head in what seems to be a smile. "Those who know of me call me Pyre. I cannot tell you yet what I am or why I do this, but you will learn in due time. Defeat the hydra with the Power of Fire I grant upon you, and you will be one step closer to the answers you seek." The circle of fire around you vanishes in a burst of sparks, and in a flash, Pyre the fox and the all-surrounding light have vanished, as though it was merely a dream, though you somehow feel that it was more than that - that what just happened was real.
