Deciding the table will be your quickest refuge, you dive for it, making it under into the darkness just as the door latch clicks open.
"Hello? Jake? Where the hell are you and who was that girl I heard?" Danny scans the Living room for signs of life and looks about to give up when his eyes lock on the kitchen table. "Since when does Jake have a cat?"
You freeze at hearing his words and glance at your tail which is partially cast into the Television light, moving seemingly on its own. You will it to stop but it's too late. Danny's already noticed and walks over. He leans down and peers under the table into the gloom, and notices your eyes reflecting the glare from the living
"Well hello little kitty. I don't believe we've met. My name's Danny," he says as he reaches in to pick up the "cat". He stops cold as his hand reaches in and hits breast, causing your breathe to catch. "What the hell?" Danny walks over to turn the kitchen light on and looks again. "WHAT THE HELL?!" He shrieks again, almost in as high a pitch as your new voice. You can't help but begin to laugh slightly at that thought.
"What are you? Who are you? And Where the hell is Jake?!" His eyes are wide with open fear and confusion as you slowly crawl out from under the table, revealing your form in the light completely. Looks like you've got no choice now but to tell him the truth.
"Danny... Jake's right in front of you..."
"What? Where?"
"Right here," you say, gesturing to yourself. Slowly you describe everything that's happened to you in the past two weeks, from the application, to the venture to the lab, to Doris, to finally, the accident which brought you to this current state of affairs.
"Jake? Th..That's really you in there?" Danny seems to have as much trouble comprehending this as much as you did at first.
"Yea it's me... Who else would know you wet the bed until you were 14?" That fact quickly erased all doubt within Danny's mind.
"Hey that does not EVER leave this house! So, you're really stuck like this?" He asks with genuine sympathy showing in his eyes.
"Yes. At least that's what I was told. Glad you came by. Needed a friend I could vent to."
"No problem man, err.. I uhh.. No problem..." You both laugh nervously at that.
