Nothing to Fear but Fear Itself

You suddenly realise that you should be grateful to Irene. Not only did she come over to make sure that you were all right, but she identified why you felt so strange all night: lycanthropy! You wondered what was causing that excessive hair growth, even though it seems obvious, now. Surely, once she understands that you pose no danger to her, Irene will relax and be able to focus on other, more interesting things.

"Irene," you say in a deeper voice than usual, "something that you said turned on a light bulb over my head."

Irene laughs, sounding like a brook spilling into a basin of smooth stones. How perfect she is! "Lucky for me," she says. "It's so dark in here that I hardly can see a thing. Seriously, though, tell me your idea, and then I'll get up and turn on some lights."

You take a deep breath. "Irene, about that epidemic--"
