"Now what?" Fred asks.
"Why don't we go upstairs?" you offer, still scratching at that spot behind your ear.
"Because I live in a one-story house," Fred announces.
You blush and tell Fred to lead the way. "I'm no Meriwether Lewis," you explain. He leads you into a study and turns on the overhead light. You sit in a comfortable chair and raise your leg to scratch that place behind your ear. "Excuse me," you tell him, "but this is killing me." The edge of your shoe is soothing, and the itch subsides.
"I have calamine lotion, if you can reach it," Fred suggests.
"That's all right," you say, taking off your shoe and holding it in your hand to scratch with. Not only does it make the itch easier to reach, but it relieves your aching foot. You flex, and claws poke through your sock. No wonder you were so uncomfortable!
