With an anguished howl, you bolt for the front door, but it is far too late to consider escaping. The floorboards creak, buckle, then collapse beneath you. Your rotund body rips through the floor like a bowling ball tearing through a sheet of paper. You clench your eyes shut, bracing yourself for the impact that is sure to follow. But the impact never comes. Very gently, and very unexpectedly, your feet come to rest on a solid surface.
Opening your eyes, you are nearly blinded by a trio of spotlights trained directly on you. Calliope music assaults your ears, and your suddenly sensitive nostrils pick up the unmistakeable aroma of popcorn and sawdust.
A man's voice blares from unseen speakers, announcing in stentorian tones, "Ladies and gentlemen! May we proudly present ... Angelo the Daring and his colossal hippopotamus, Hugo the Huge!" In the darkness beyond the spotlights, a vast audience bursts into applause.
