An explanation

You ask the witch, "Who are you and what did you do with the archeological team? My girlfriend Jessie was with them!"

The witch laughs, "They stand before you, little one. I have merely ... improved upon them. A proper Lady must have servants, yes?"

You look at the kitsune again. Beneath the distortions of fur and foxhood, you can just barely make out the shape of your beloved Jessie's face. "Jessie", you moan, "why did you bring me to her?"

"I had to", she replies matter-of-factly. "I am under the witch's spell. Besides, now you can become a werebeast, or a kitsune, just like me. It doesn't matter what you choose. Just choose an animal. Please?" Fox or no, she can still wrap your heart around her cute little finger when she looks at you that way. And she's looking at you that way. Suddenly, being half-animal doesn't seem so bad ... not if you can be with Jessie. But if they're all under the witch's spell, and they're half-beast, and you're not half-beast, and you're not under the witch's spell ... doesn't that mean you'll be put under the witch's spell if you do this? (Come to think of it, what if it's the witch's spell luring you in, and not Jessie at all?) But you love Jessie, you want to be with her, through thick and thin ... and, now that you think of it, even fur.
