The spider chuckles, lowering herself from the web to the floor. You shake with fear as she approaches you.
"If you speak true, your foe is no other then Teron McFirten," she says. "In this case, I will help you." She grabs you behind the back and lifts you into the air, causing you to shake like a bowl of jelly as your expanding gut bounces with the motion. She places you on her back, and starts climbing the wall of the chamber. You are relieved, as it looks as if you'll live, for now.
"Who is this McFirten, anyway?" you ask as she climbs up the cliff you fell down. "Long ago," she begins, "I was not as you see me now. It was an age of enchantment, long before man had even began to toy with fire. I was the sorceress Anasia, spirit of balance. There were three of us back then. Tripa was the spirit of chaos, and Zela was the spirit of order. We kept all at peace. Then the darkness came into our lives, as it must at times. The spirits of sorrow, fear, destruction, and strife came together, and that ... creature ... was born. We thought him a minor problem at first; an imp dressed in green would have never alarmed us. Then the trouble began. He reveled in twisting the dreams of those who lived, turning nightmares into reality, giving people what they wanted, but with a heavy price ... as you yourself must know." You growl slightly ... you're pretty sure that was meant to be a joke of some sort.
"So what happened?" you ask, as the spider continues her climb. "The three sorceresses came together, and through the use of our magic, we were able to trap McFirten in a mystic box of warding. As we did, he changed me into the form you see now, his final 'gift' to the world. Without the spirit of balance, the world changed, as chaos contended with order. In this age, order outweighs chaos. If it continues, the world may end in destruction. But, if we allow McFirten to stay free, it WILL end, and soon." "So how do we destroy him?" you say. "Destroy him? You cannot destroy him. He is a pure force of negative energy, he has to exist. The only thing we can do is trap him." "So how do we do that?" "We must combine the forces of order, chaos, and balance once more. This means you need to get our three scepters, the box, and McFirten together in one place." "Why me?" you cry. "Because you released him in the first place, meaning you have a magical capasity. In this form, I have no magic, so the wands are useless to me." You think, and she has a point, no one else is around to do it. Suddenly, another thing crosses your mind. "What about my curse?" you say. "I'm still gaining weight, I'll need to find the pot first." At this time, the spider has crawled into the passageway the smaller spiders were dragging you down. "Knowing McFirten, he probably lied to you. If not, there is most likely some sort of price on it. If you wait too long, the magical barriers that keep him here will dissolve, and we'll never be able to stop him. He probably sent you on this chase to keep you occupied so you couldn't trap him once more." "If we trap him again, will I return to normal?" You ask, desparately searching for a way out of your predicament. "Probably not.", the spider confesses. "I think only McFirten can undo what he's done." Your spirits fall, and the spider apparently notices. "Very well. If you wish, we'll look for the pot of gold first, though it will probably lead to disaster. I'll leave the choice to you." You must think carefully ... do you look for the gold, or try and trap McFirten? Or is there another answer somewhere?
