The Offer

You blink. She didn't just say that did she? Of all the lines you should have seen that one coming. "HA!" you bellow, the sound echoing throughout the forest like a cannon. "Really, 'love'. How quaint. I suppose your going to tell me a story about some star crossed romance. Please, tell me about revenge, plots, justice or honor, but don't sit here and lie to me about how a war is about 'love'."

"My son is a captive of the Seelie court." says Morgana calmly, "When he was born he was taken from me by his father and raised as Seelie. Can you honestly say that love is not motivation to get him back?" At this you have to stop and think. You try to think of an ulterior motive, if she were speaking the truth. In the silent moments, Morgana seems to take it as some type of affirmation. "The Laws of the Fae demand that when a child is born of the high Fae, a male child must be raised in the Seelie Court, and a female must be raise in the Unseelie court. I am past the age of conceiving children, my son is all I have, and they demand I cannot be with him. I will not stand for that. For him, I will overthrow the Seelie court and undo this ridiculous law."

As you listen, you note a type of sincerity in her voice, a conviction that makes you want to believe her. "And you expect me to, what? Fight for you? Please, you dragged me into this, don't expect me to suddenly develop a case of stockholm syndrome just because you tell me a sob story."

"Then I offer you a deal." She says, "Help me overthrow the Seelie court, and I will change you back to your former self."

"No dice, I already know you can't undo this, you need both magics of the courts to make the change permanent." You retort, not going into empty promises.

"Once the Seelie court is overthrown, I will be able to force a collaboration of both magics." she sates, "Therefore I will be able to."

You think about it. The offer is tempting, and sounds like it may just work. Then again, are you even still interested in changing back anymore? For the first time in your life you feel completely free. Do you want to give that up? Then again, can you really live as you are, halfway between man and animal?
