Game 3 | Game 3 Outline |
The Countess, who had apparently turned herself invisible when the light had come up, suddenly appears, crying sincerely. "I've never seen something so beautiful," she sobs. "I haven't seen love of that sort, or any sort, for centuries." Suddenly, her staff flashes brightly again, and when it clears, you've turned human again...and Celia is up against the wall, fully clothed. "Wh-Wh-Wh-What? What happened?" she asks, then catches sight of the Countess. She moves up to join you and the other girls, all of you with equally puzzled expressions. The Countess slowly gets a hold on herself, and says "You impressed me greatly. I've been doing this ever since I faked death in the early seventeenth century. István Magyari, that infernal minister, laid a curse on me. Minister, ha! He was just an evil man with evil intentions. He only wanted power, magical AND political. He came up to me a short while after my husband, Ferenc, died. He feigned sympathy and tried to seduce me, and I could tell that it was all fake. I told him that he would never be welcome in my husband's castle, and walked away. That night, I dreamed of him. He stood before me, flames all around, and I'll never forget what he said. 'Power shall be mine, and you will give it to me, one way or another. Right now you are dreaming, but you'll wake up in a different world than the one you left, and your death shall be dictated by the deaths you caused.' He laughed, and I woke up. A scroll lay before me, and I read its contents. 'YOU SHOULD HAVE TAKEN ME WHEN YOU HAD THE CHANCE. I KEPT YOU ASLEEP FOR TEN YEARS, AND NOW MY PLAN IS ALMOST COMPLETE. IN A FEW HOURS, THE BODY YOU HAVE WILL BE OVERCOME BY THE SPIRIT THAT HAS BEEN INHABITING IT FOR THE TIME YOU HAVE BEEN ASLEEP. BY ITS ACTIONS, YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS, DOROTA, ILONA, KATARÍNA, AND JÁNOS TORTURED AND KILLED HUNDREDS OF INNOCENT GIRLS. THEY HAVE ALL BEEN PUT TO DEATH, AND YOU CANNOT LEAVE YOUR HUSBAND'S CASTLE. YOU WILL LEAVE ME EVERYTHING, AND NOTHING CAN SAVE YOU.' There wasn't a signature, but I didn't need one. I felt anguish and hatred as I had never known, and I started to chant. I had learned Latin from a young age, but nobody knew that I had looked up the ancient spells. I thought nothing would drive me to use them, but that was a distant memory. Magyari appeared before me, and I spoke more quickly, with more emotion. I kept speaking, and before he could utter a syllable against my spell, he started feeling all the pain he caused. His fingers fell off in a fiery glow, flames licked around his entire body, he felt the agony of every woman he orchestrated the deaths of, and just as he was about to succumb to death, his head fell off, and everything was consumed by the flame. I glared at the ashes, and spoke more words. The ashes reformed into my own body, and things arranged themselves to make it appear that I was dead. With that, I spoke more spells and created this dimension. I made a replica of my husband's castle and created this dungeon. The anguish and hatred within me didn't die out, and so I used my newly found power as a way to express my discontent whenever someone stumbled upon that site. I haven't seen anything as beautiful as that before, and I'm not sure I ever will again. But you've broken the curse on me; I can see clearly now. I'll make this up to you girls." As she finishes, the cell opens, and the five of you walk out to her. "Anything that you desire shall be yours. My power is not limited to transformations. Each of you, come and speak to me in turn. If it's all right with the rest of you, I'll take her first." She is talking about you. Your heart races. "Dear, what is your name." You calm yourself and say, "My name is Rose."
