Game 3 | Game 3 Outline |
You explore the castle for a while. As a favoured guest of the resident witch, the enchantments formerly cast to cloud your eyes are banished. You now see the castle in all its grandeur - marvellous tapestries hang from marble walls, great paintings of noble and intelligent-looking people stare from every direction. The entrance hall now has an enormous staircase leading to the upper rooms - kind of like in the video game, "Resident Evil". But what draws your attention is a little sign, pointing up a corridor, and marked "Museum of Antiquities and Artefacts". You follow the corridor...
... and find yourself in an amazing room! It's about as large as the enchanted room Roger is stuck in. From every direction, however, powerful-looking artefacts glare down at you - a nearby stone with a hilt sticking out of it is marked "EXCALIBUR: AWAITING OWNER. ARTHUR, KING OF THE BRITONS." You're not sure whether that's supposed to be funny, but you sure have a good laugh. You take another look around - A human foot marked "ACHILLES HEEL", an enormous hoof marked "BALIO'S CLAW", a gleaming dagger marked "KEENING: AWAITING OWNER/S. NEREVARINE, SLAYER OF DEMONS/VIVEC, OVERLORD OF MORROWIND". Hmm.. That sounds familiar, somehow, though you can't say QUITE how. You look around some more. "BLADE OF KHAN: DEMONS KILLED SO FAR WITH IT, 3484."
"COIN OF ZAKARUM - GREED PREVAILS!"
"AXE OF MURDEROUS THOUGHTS - A SINGLE CLUTCH IS ALL YOU NEED TO WANT TO KILL YOUR FAMILY."
But one in paticular draws your attention. It's an enormous curtain, with a velvet rope round it. A brass plaque next to it reads "DO NOT TOUCH. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS". You pull aside the curtain to see two small boxes. One is smaller than the other, and marked "PANDORA'S BOX. CURRENTLY RETURNED: BUBONIC PLAGUE, SPONTANEOUS COMBUSTION, AND CONSTANT BED WETTING". The other is about the size of an ordinary cardboard box - but it is gold and covered in curious designs. A plaque next to it reads -
"FINAL RESTING PLACE OF HADES AND HIS SERVANTS. LONG MAY THOSE BASTARDS REMAIN DEAD". You notice a particularly large design on the top of the box - it's of a great demon, capering about wildly. You look onto the plaque to realize it goes further - apparently, a list about the remains in the box.
"GRIM, REAPER OF SOULS.
SHADOW, DESTROYER OF MORTALS.
BELIAL, ARCHDUKE OF HELL, MINOR DEMONIC SPIRIT.
DIABLO, SPANISH DEMON OF TERROR, MINOR DEMONIC SPIRIT.
PERSEPHONE, BRIDE OF HADES AND QUEEN OF HELL.
GULAKHAN, ACTING MASTER OF HELL, SUPREME DEMONIC SPIRIT.
GAASH, SPIRIT OF FIRE, HADES GENERAL, SUPREME DEMONIC SPIRIT."
Something about those names sends a chill up your spine. Finally, you move onto the last three names of the plaque.
"DEATH, GRIM'S COMMANDANT, SUPREME DEMONIC SPIRIT.
PAIN, COMMANDANT OF DIABLO, SUPREME DEMONIC SPIRIT.
HADES, OVERLORD OF HELL."
A tiny sketch accompanies each name - "Grim" is tall and cloaked, with the face of a skeleton. "Shadow" has nothing but a black cloud with red eyes. "Belial" has an enormous, human-shaped bug, with mandibles. "Diablo" has a monstrous cross between a human, a bull, and a demon. "Persephone" is a beautiful woman - with snakes in her hair and a twisted, many-toothed smile. "Gulakhan" is particularly frightening - it's simply a red eye, with intricate designs within. But somehow it feels malevolent and powerful. "Gaash" is simply a large ball of fire with red eyes.
"Death" is a black skull, with a white ying and yang sign in his leg eye, and a black one in his right. "Pain" is a great hand, covered in gleaming blue vains. And finally, "Hades" - the most frightening of all. When you first look at it, it appears to be a man - a rather ordinary, even handsome man. Muscular and powerful-looking, dressed in white and refined-looking clothes. But in a flash it changes to a monstrous creature. Words cannot describe it - it is man-shaped, but somehow malevolent and enormous, and has enormous glistening tentacles for teeth. It is covered in blood, and seems to be howling a warcry. Truly frightening.
But as you watch the transformation of Hades, your hand jerks involuntarily - AND BOTH BOXES SUDDENLY DROP TO THE FLOOR! You've just released the bubonic plague and a bunch of demons upon the Earth!
