You follow the scent of meat through the woods until you come to a small pond. Next to the pond is a tall tree. A small but pudgy red fox is resting on the cool grass under the shade of the tree. The smell of meat comes from the piles of recently discarded bones laying around him.
The fox is stripping the last bit of meat from what used to be a farm animal when you approach.
He sees you and swallows quickly. He makes no attempt to flee and addresses you in a calm but cautious voice. "Um. High there. Is-is there something I can help you with?"
You look the fox over. A few days ago you would have been freaking out at meeting a talking animal. Now, not so much. The fox doesn't seem to be a bad sort but you have had some bad dealings with strange creatures lately and it never hurts to be cautious.
