Gulakhan's Tale

"Lord Hades, where - and what - is Gulakhan?" you ask. It's about half an hour after you left, and you've already learned much of Hades. He's powerful and intelligent - his only fault is his powers. Without them, he might be a pleasant and succesful man.

"Gulakhan..." Hades hisses, his eyes lit by tiny red flames, which dance wildly. "He was once the General of Hades and my trusted companion. We destroyed the Earth together, long ago - but something drained both our powers and created a new Earth. A monstrous entity which called itself 'God' - it performed this one act, and then dissapeared. It used OUR powers to perform this task... monstrous, mindless LIGHT!!!" he howls, stamping his feet - which have suddenly become cloven - in rage. He soon turns back to normal.

"After that, Gulakhan and I were condemned to spend eternity in Hell. We both used the remnants of our power to create servants - Gulakhan created Gaash, Belial, and Grim, while I created Diablo and Shadow. Death and Pain joined us from the above Earth, and pleased us with their tales of spreading evil and hatred, after finally being released from the prison of Pandoras Box." Hades grins - and, to your shock, the ground in front of you rapidly melts and becomes lava. The walls crack and grow moss and the ceiling begins to cave in - his grin is decaying the building!

"Then what happened?" you ask, in your new, powerful voice.

"We performed many acts of carnage and evil, rituals, pacts with foolish and weak humans. Eventually I stole a beautiful Goddess' daughter after she was killed, and she was condemeded to spend 6 months of every year with me - Persephone here. The pact was broken soon after, and she was left to rot. Fortunately, she knew the entrance to Hell, and we both were happy together." Hades smiles.

"But then something awful happened. A 'loyal' follower of ours, Elizabeth Bathory, invited us to celebrate a paticularly large battle and show us her newest experiment - the year, if memory serves, was 1066. But she imprisoned us, with her magic and trickery, in a dark box - one WE had given to her, in trust! We were now imprisoned, condemnded to nothingness for eternity..."

"But that doesn't explain where Gulakhan is," you press him. To your horror, Hades eyes gleam red and a racking pain shoots through your body.

"DON'T MENTION HIS NAME! We used all our power to break the seal on the box - but Gulakhan showed his true colours. He hated both good and evil, and decided to show it. He blocked the exit with incredible power and escaped alone, leaving us there to die, and leading Elizabeth Bathory to believe he was yet imprisoned, just like us. Otherwise the world would still be free of pain and sorrow - Gulakhan alone, with his incredible powers, has created monstrous devices of killing by planting seeds of hatred in the brains of men. He was the driving force behind nuclear weapons, behind guns, behind me introducing Death itself to the world!" Hades doesn't look sorry - on the other hand, he looks like he wished he was that clever.

"In any event, that Witch appears to have sensed our presence and left. Let us return to the others and see.. The resurrection of Hell's army!"
