Finally, an explanation!

"Jason, we're friends, right?" you inquire.

"Of course. Why?" he asks.

"Would you mind changing back, please? I trust you and everything, but you're making me nervous."

Jason grimaces. "Supposing I do," he begins, "what is my brother gonna say when he gets home?"

You shrug. "I don't know your brother," you say, "but I can't imagine that he'd take offense."

Jason shakes his head. "I keep forgetting that you're not Mickey. Listen, it's not normal to stay furless around here. It's one thing at school, but at home, we only do that if we're sick, which isn't often. My family has an amazingly good sense of smell, so my brother will recognize you to be human the minute he walks in the door. In other words, I'm the only thing that could keep you from being a snack, whether or not I change back between now and then. You don't realize how much danger you're in like this."
