About the entire Animorphs series:
- Although I am quite an adult, I found these books to be very interesting, fun to read,
and captivating. Recommended to all who just want to read some great animal transformation
stories, with a touch of alien life and humor. -148 (98/02/10)
- Agreed. This is young-adult fiction, but I absolutely love it. And if your peers should
happen to catch you reading it, just look them straight in the eye and say "What are
you looking at, hyoo-man?" :-) Rating: 4

- [Cause: AX Result: BX/AN/PE.] The characters,
Jake, Rachel, Cassie, Tobias, and Marco are given the ability to transform when they
encounter a dying alien. They must 'acquire DNA' from an animal in order to have the
ability to become it (via direct contact). They are told to help fight for the survival of
human existence using the new abilities before the alien dies. Transformations are all
physical with a mental additive such as the instincts or state of mind of the particular
animal. Thus far, all transformations have been only to animals not inorganic or plant
shapes. Transformations in Book 1 include: Dog, Cat, Hawk, Lizard, Horse, Elephant, Tiger,
and others. A two-hour time limit is imposed to add a suspense factor. If a character
spends more than two hours in a "morph" they are unable to revert to their human
form (or change to any other.) Tobias, at the end of the book, goes over his two hour
limit as a Red-tailed Hawk. -148 (98/02/10)

- [Cause: AX/NA Result: BX/AN/PE/MU.] The
"Animorphs" (the group of kids who've been given some pretty awesome powers)
realize that the threat to humans (and all life on Earth for that matter) is a real one.
In order to get more information about the aliens and their plot, they eavesdrop on one of
them.
The aliens are basically slimy things that inhabit human bodies like parasites, but take
control mentally and physically of them. Therefore, many humans who otherwise appear
normal, are actually alien-controlled and simply make things much harder for our heroes.
The Animorphs discover that the school's vice-principal is a "Human-Controller"
and eavesdrop on his conversations with alien leaders. Rachel becomes a cat like that of
the vice-principal's daughter, and goes snooping. Book 2 transformations include: Cat,
Flea, Shrew, and others. -148 (98/02/10)

- [Cause: AX/NA Result: BX/AN/PE/MU.] Focuses on
Tobias, who is now permanently a Red-tailed Hawk. This book is my favorite so far. The
author does a good job of describing (insofar as a Young Adult novel goes) Tobias's
position. i.e. how he feels and how his friends react. During the course of the book,
Tobias discovers a strange phenomenon in the sky, which turns out to be an alien ship
travelling to and from a mountain lake. The Animorphs investigate and find that the Aliens
are stealing natural resources (in this case, water) to further their survival while
waiting in orbit. (All this alien stuff sounds somewhat dorky, but it is well-wove into
the transformations and the rest of the story.) Our heroes decide to put a halt to their
activities and using every secret to their powers, barely accomplish their goal. There is
a good chapter or so that deals with Tobias trying to accept the fact that he'll be an
animal for the rest of his life. Transformations this book: Wolves and Fish in addition to
those previous. -148 (98/02/10)

- [Cause: AX/NA Result: BX/AN/PE/MU.] Recurring
dreams of the Animorphs give knowledge of a shipwrecked alien in the ocean. The alien in
particular is on the same side as the humans, which leads them off on a quest to find it
and rescue it. Cassie and the other still-human Animorphs journey to the sea and make use
of Dolphin and Seagull forms to get there. Very invigorating adventure and as always,
written with a style that's positive, interesting and fun to read. -148 (98/02/10)

If you are at all interested, find this. Definitely avoid older translations though. You
will have a hard time understanding (I did)... If you have trouble finding it, you may
wish to try at university bookstores under literature. -78
- Written c. 150 AD, this, the only other Latin novel we have, is an elaborate romance,
hilarious and bawdy, about the adventures of "a young voluptuary from the provinces
who travels to Thessaly, partakes of a magic potion, and is transformed into an Ass."
