- [Cause: NA/MA/VI Result: VA/LY.] Laurell
Hamilton writes a series about a vampire slayer in a world where every legend is true. So
far in this series (five books..) there have been were-rats.. were-wolves..
were-leopards.. a were-swan.. and more. Characters in this series have become shape
shifters in a wide variety of ways, that include viruses.. spells..heredity and more. I do
hope that you try this series and enjoy it as much as I have. -146 (98/02/10)

Description: 0 Saturation: 0. This is set in a future where humans have hybridized
their DNA in order to colonize space. However the hybridization, which granted
virtual immortality to the select few, is inherently flawed by the accumulation of errors
in DNA replication. To combat this xeno-DNA is introduced before puberty. The
results may or may not be fully human, and earlier memories are made unavailable, while
new memories are added. There are very few actual physical transformations. But
there are many results of those transformations. The story evolves into rebel vs.
ruler scenario. -76 (98/02/10)

- [Cause: MA? Result: MX Description: +.] This
seems to be a novel written by a person who awakes from an LSD trip one morning or after a
nightmare caused by the consumption of a Stephen King novel. It contains some kind of
transformation -- the (teenage) protagonist gets the claw of a wolf which becomes a part
of him and gives him the strength of the wolf spirit when he needs to fight the evil. Not
very well written, a bit chaotic, but some very nice ideas. Even better than most of
Stephen King's novels. (IMHO) At least it does not bore. Transformation scenes: thumb
slightly up. Rating: 3. -114

- [Cause: CM Result: BX/AN.] I read this a long
time ago, but I recall this had a subplot about an 18th century english nobleman's quest
for immortality. He realised that carp never die of old age (a recurring theme in
Blaylock's stories), and decided that it was something in their gut that did this. The
twentieth century protagonists, themselves hoping for immortality, find his journals and
manage to track him down. On a diet containing regular doses of raw fish intestines, once
he managed to keep them down, he has indeed lived two centuries. The catch: Human beings
are neotenous apes. In two hundred years, the embryo ape gets time to grow up. He's turned
into what is, for all practical purposes, an orang-utan. Marginal transformation story,
but it's a good joke. -77
