Since the List has gotten Rather Large, it's easy for new entries and
changes to get lost in the shuffle. This section, suggested by Brian Eirik Coe, will
contain links to all the new entries and entries with changed information, so you'll be
able to quickly get the updates.
(For those using the text version, which doesn't have the benefit of the
links, titles like this are books; titles in quotes are short stories; I'll
specify if it's something other than a book or short story.)
If you would like to be notified when the list is updated, please sign up
using the following form; it will register you with the extremely cool URL-Minder
service.
- 99/12/31: Did I say "more reliable"? :) As you've found out if you
tried to access this site in the last day or so, cihost.com managed to
completely screw up their nameservers somehow, resulting in an inability
of most people, myself included, to access this site (and several thousand
others). Grr. I can't wait to see the fallout from this one.
On the bright side, the scripts do appear to be working, and I hope to
begin adding data soon, provided Y2K buglets don't crop up.
- 99/12/15: After yet another long period of inactivity (and a deep, deep
bout with depression), the List revives once again, just in time for Y2K. :)
I've been running the list on my local ISP's web server; it's outgrown it a
bit, and seems to be moving out of the personal-ISP business. I've also run
into disk space limitations, which prevented expansion. A few months ago, I
tried moving the List to another server, Internet Communications; but the
reliability and service there were so horrible that I didn't even bother
completing the move. I'm now just completing the process of moving the List
(and my own personal homepage) to cihost.com; their servers seem to be quite
a bit faster and more reliable, and their customer service has been very
satisfactory as well. And I now have 200 megabytes of disk space (up from
15MB on halcyon.com), which should be more than enough for the time being.
So, without further ado, www.transformationlist.com is now open! Please pardon
any glitches and bad links you run into over the next few days, as I finish
revising the scripts that hold the List together. Many thanks for your patience
and support.
- 98/04/15: Added books: Tom Deitz's Above
the Lower Sky and The
Demons in the Green. Updated information on unknown book The Dragon's Pearl.
- 98/04/14: Added book: Annette Curtis Klause's Blood and Chocolate. Added
story: Phaedrus' "Reinkarmation".
- 98/04/11: I've taken several steps to reduce the load time of this site. The main page
should now load quite a bit more quickly, and the pages shouldn't reload needlessly. In
addition, the main page material isn't duplicated anymore; the old
"transmain.html" page is dead. This should make navigating the site a bit faster
still, but it does mean that any links on other site that point to
"transmain.html" should now point to "translist.html". (There's a
redirection page, so that these links won't break; but links to translist.html will be
faster.)
Moved the "author unknown" entries to their own pages--one for books, one for stories.
Added stories: Margret Clingerman's "Wild
Wood"; Julio Cortazar's "The
Distances"; Frank Wu's "Turn and Face the Strange".
Added TV: "Aladdin"; "Cervantes' Hens"; "Doctor Who"; "One Step Beyond"; "Thriller". Added resource links: Destrier's Equine
Shape-Shifting Page; From the Keyboard of
Terry Spafford. Added backlink: Catalog of Text Archives.
Added furry sites: ANIMAL-ANIMA;
Boss Hoss's Stable.
And, yes, I'll be adding actual content tonight.
- 98/04/07: About face... I decided that there wasn't really any point in separating the
net stories from the conventionally-published stories. So the net stories have now been
moved into the Stories section. I'm still working on listing many more stories, and I
would still greatly appreciate your help.
- 98/04/06: Adding Net Stories section, for stories written and distributed for free
online. It's going to be extremely sparse for a while; you'll probably be wondering why in
the heck I created 26 separate pages, as I did for the existing Books and Stories
section--but I anticipate this becoming at least as large as the current Stories section,
and I didn't want to have to rearrange it again later. Watch the List grow... The
commentary I'll be providing for the stories I'm adding will probably be very minimal, at
least at first (because I want to get something on the pages as soon as possible). If you
can provide summaries for the stories I've listed (or for stories that I haven't
listed yet, for that matter), I'd greatly appreciate it. I plan on adding the stories from
my own site first (so that I don't foul someone else's nest if I get things wrong),
followed by the stories from the Transformation Stories Archive, followed by stories from
elsewhere.
Added net stories: Luke Allen's "A Trickster's Tail 724:
Anniversary" and "Lurker
Surprise"; Brian Eirik Coe's "Care and Feeding"; Lance
Holloway's "Full Moon"; Ileah's
"A Murder of One"; Wayne
Keisler's "The Buck"; Kim's "Just Another Day"; Marko Laine's
"Untitled"; Magus'
"Meeting Friends"; Charles
Matthias' "Flushed!"; Mike
Nelson's "Bye, Bye Blackbird";
Xander Opal's "The First
Day In a New Life"; Arthur Pearson's "Growing Wilder"; Phaedrus' "Byte Me", "Commission", "Field Trip", "A Trickster's Tail", and "Wishes"; Pascal Q. Porcupine's "Just another Sunday...";
Sonic Prophecy's "Windows"; R. Seth
Trotman's "The Confession";
Wolphin's "A Day In My New Life";
Zach's "To Mewp, or Not
To Mewp". Added resource link: Magus the Fox's Archive. Added
search engine resource: Snap.
- 98/04/05: Eliminated the navigation frame; since every page on the List now includes
navigation links at the top and bottom of the page, and a site index at the bottom, the
navigation frame is needless overkill. Added Help Wanted
page.
- 98/04/04: Still working on getting a few bugs out of the system. Added book: Peter S.
Beagle's Unicorn Sonata.
- 98/04/03: I've rearranged the main page and rewritten the instructions,
trying to make the site a bit easier for first-time viewers. If you have any suggestions
about how the site should be formatted, now would be an excellent time to bring them up.
The search engine was broken last night and this morning. Sorry about that; it's back up
now. (Yes, the List really does have actual content to it; I promise...)
- 98/04/01: Added extra navigation links to the top of each page, to make the list easier
to navigate.
For those who may be wondering what the icons next to the books and stories mean: The essentially means "Transformations are very important
to this book." The means "Transformations are
incidental to this." The means "This is about
average, transformation-wise." And the means
"The List is missing important information about this book; please send in more
information if you know it." For more information, please check the Entry Format explanation.
Future Plans Announcement: I'll shortly begin listing information on "net
stories" (stories published on Web pages, like the Transformation Story Archive, and my own
meager collection). So if you know of any good transformation
stories lurking in the tendrils of the Web, please let me know about them!
- 98/03/30: The feedback received on the new look has been unanimously positive, so I've
gone ahead and implemented it. I'll be tweaking it over the next few days, and adding
support for IE3 and Navigator3. (The Lynx holdouts out there should be happy as well,
since the navigation maps are now more accessible from Lynx.)
- 98/03/29: Updated the new formatting a bit. Added a new test
page.
- 98/03/28: I'm trying to improve the appearance and functionality of the site for people
using newer browsers (Communicator and IE4), without compromising it for people who
aren't. For those of you using IE4 or Communicator, I would greatly appreciate it if you
would go to this test page, have a look, and give me your feedback. Do you think it looks better or
worse than the plain-ol'-HTML version? How would you change it? When you email me,
please tell me what browser, and what version of that browser, you're using! (Those
using other browsers are also encouraged to look, to make sure that I haven't made some
hideous mistake that causes your browser to melt down. I've verified that it's still
Lynx-Compliant(tm), and I don't see how it could break other browsers, but you never
know.)
- 98/03/26: Still working the kinks out of the software. Added books: Mercedes Lackey's Jinx High; Fritz Leiber's Conjure Wife; Karl Wagner's Darkness Weaves. Added comic: Transformers.
- 98/03/18: Added Book: George Chesbro's The Beasts of Valhalla.
Added story: Unknown. Added
bookstore comparison service: MX
BookFinder. Added lycanthropy link: Bender's
Werewolves in Suburbia
- 98/03/16: Added a prototype version of the Add New
Contribution form. Added a new comparison service to the Bookstore Browser: Advanced Book Exchange.
- 98/03/12: Added book: Wayland Drew's Willow.
Lots of minor bug fixes.
- 98/03/07: Added backlink: Wolf Studios.
- 98/03/05: Revised the Focus page; added two new Focus
sections--Furry Stories and Transgender. Added backlink: Nickel's Bishoujo Home Page. Added lycanthropy
link: Wolfgirl's Transformation
Links. Added furry links: Brian Eirik
Coe's Homepage; The Buck's Stories; The Dark Woods Page; Lance Holloway's Transformation Page.
Added transgender links: Jenifer's
Favorite Places.
- 98/03/04: Added Good Stuff links: "Constructing Kafka"; "In the Shame of the Rose". Converted
the imagemaps to client-side, on browsers that support them. Search links are now
available on all pages. I'll be re-doing the imagemaps to include the new options. (By the
way, if there's anyone out there who can actually draw, volunteers are more than welcome.)
- 98/03/03: Completed converting the Stories section to the new format. In the process of
making these conversions, some of the internal links have broken; I'm working on fixing
that. You'll notice that the entries linked to from this page now have the modification
date in parentheses; you can now search by last-modification date from the Power Search
page. Speaking of which, I've made numerous changes to the search engine, increasing its
speed somewhat and adding warnings for frequently-made mistakes; please try it out if you haven't already.
- 98/03/02: Added some new links to the Resource page: Anna's Transgender and
Transsexual Links; Internet Public Library; Las Vegas Transgendered Web; Mia's Index of Anthro Stories; Miavir's Treasure Chest of
Assorted Furryness; Online Gender Support Group;
The SF Site; Transformation Graphics Archive; Transgender Community Forum Info Page; XoYo's Story Archive. Updated online
bookstore info. Updated search engine info. Tweaked the URL-Minder form a bit, to only
send notifications every 7 days. (This won't affect people who have already signed up for
the service, though you can make the change yourself on the URL-Minder site.)
- 98/03/01: "Over the next few days" turned out to be a bit of an
underestimation. Have now recoded the Books section in the new format; starting on the
Stories section, which should be an easier job. Tweaked the Power Search a bit, fixing
bugs and adding warnings/error messages to try to spot common problems with search
requests. Tweaked the code system a bit in the process; notably codes for animal
transformations (AN), transformations to/from inanimate objects (IN), and personality
changes (PE). I'll be changing the code system a bit more, now that I have the search
engine to actually tell me how the existing system is used...
- 98/02/24: Added a prototype Power Search page.
- 98/02/22: I'm "standardizing" the format of the list, to make it possible to
update the search engine to work by title, author, subject matter, etc. I've already done
the "A" books in this way; I'll be doing the rest of the list over the next few
days--I'll spare you the blow-by-blow updates of how far I've gotten. At this point,
I'm almost ready to start dealing with new entries; I'll be adding a form-based
interface to make it easier to send things in.
- 98/02/19: Before I go further in adding bookstore links to the site, I'm trying to make
things a bit more "bookstore-neutral". Everybody has a favorite bookstore, and I
want to make things easy for as many people as possible; besides, it's nice to be able to
compare notes among stores. So you'll notice that the [Am$] links have been replaced by
[BB$] links; these take you to the Bookstore Browser screen, that allows you to check
various online bookstores' information on the book.
- 98/02/18: Tweaked the search engine some more.
- 98/02/17: Added a very early prototype of the search engine.
- 98/02/16: Since I'm almost caught up, I'm working on improving the functionality of the
list before finishing things off. By far the most commonly-requested feature is a search
engine, so I'm working on adding one; it'll probably be fairly limited, but it'll be
several orders of magnitude better than the current "go through the list until you
find what you want" searching system. Those of you who can see invisible ink (or
enjoy snooping around through HTML source) will notice that I've now embedded HTML
comments in the pages, that the search engine will key on. Watch this space.
This page only lists changes in the last 2 months. To go back farther than
that, you can use this quick search form, or go to the Power
Search page.
