- Pollen is one of three novels apparently set in the same universe, a sort of
alternate near-future Manchester. I haven't read the first novel, Vurt [Crown;
1995; 0-517-59991-0; $22 hardcover] [BBT],
or the third novel, which just came out recently, but Pollen stood alone quite
well.
The idea is that some of the boundaries between our reality and various other realities
are breaking down. In particular, bits of dreamworld stuff that look like feathers are
invading/intruding, with results that are unpredictable and implications that are
extensive but unclear. Noon is not an explain-it-all kind of author.
Pollen features, among other transformations, a cab driver who dies and comes
back to life as sort of a vegetative entity, a young woman whose memory has been erased,

information)
