Only a small part of the book, but it's worth seeking out for the transformation. -75

He gets misused there and transforms into a werewolf while being raped by another prisoner. He breaks out, is found by a werewolf speed metal band called "Vargr Rules" and tries to get a rank within their brutal pack, but he does not like their brutality and falls in love with a native American girl, who is a were-coyote. Again it is bad European werewolves against good native werecoyotes, too much rape and unnecessary brutality. Rotten German translation. Transformation: depends on your taste. Rating: 1. -114

Rating: 5 Cause: MA Result: BM(usually) Significance: 0. The Garrett series is a really excellent series. The transformations that occur are semi-incidental, but are significant. If you're just looking for the transformation stories, you'll want books 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6. In Sweet Silver Blues, people become vampires (which is a disease, and is slow); in Cold Copper Tears a god manifests in several forms; in Old Tin Sorrows a ghost becomes solid by sucking the life out of somebody (marginal); in Dread Brass Shadows a magic book has the power to transform a person into somebody else; and in Red Iron Nights a curse moves from person to person. I highly recommend Glen Cook's work to everyone, not just for the transformation aspects. -91

The stories are "The Shape of Things" and "Talk to the Animals" repectively. [...] Although the stories are, as I said, fairly cheesy, I'd give 'em a + since the shapechanging is the resolution. -133 (98/02/06)
